Reflecting on Dicey Towers & GMTK Game Jam 2022
Really happy with how this game came out! I wasn't even planning on doing the jam this year as I didn't think I would have the time to dedicate to it, but once I heard the theme, so many ideas came to mind that I just had to give it a shot.
There are quite a few things I think didn't work or were too messy or poorly implemented. I wish I had given myself more time to playtest and add more polish. The controls for example could be much improved. The physics and collisions could be less janky. The tutorial could be longer, more engaging and better paced at introducing mechanics to the player. I've taken all the feedback from your comments into consideration as I make plans to move forward with development on Dicey Towers.
Minor issues and jankiness aside, I gotta say...I absolutely LOVE playing my game. That might be a vain thing to say, but I think it's genuinely fun, especially once you master all of the mechanics and know when to use them. I've never really made a game before that I felt had this level of depth and longevity and I think there's still a lot left for me to explore with this game. I have many ideas that I'd like to try and I'd love to release this as a full game sometime down the road (possibly with a focus on mobile platforms).
Once the voting period is over, I will upload a final version with some minor tweaks and fixes (nothing huge). I will link to a new page where I plan to continue development on this game. Thanks to everyone who played, voted and commented on my submission! Had a lot of fun this year even though I wasn't expecting to even participate. Can't wait for next year's GMTK jam! :)
